Owner of Training Tails LLC, Amy spent her childhood assuming she’d become a veterinarian because that is “what animal lovers were supposed to do”. Her journey into dog training began as a teenager when she took her aging family Labrador, Rosie, back to training classes. At age 17 Amy attended even more classes with Scout, her first Shetland Sheepdog. Scout then passed the Canine Good Citizen test and two Therapy Dog certifications.
In 2013 she met her first mentor, the late Anne Springer (a pioneer of fear free training!) and became her training assistant. Amy decided to train full time in 2020 during the Covid Pandemic after meeting her second training mentor Diane Kurkjian.
Amy became a Certified Pet Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) in September 2021 and continues to train in a variety of dog sports in her free time. She currently competes in Flyball with her second Sheltie, Odo. She has also participated in Agility, Rally, Barn hunt, Lure Coursing and currently trials in Scent-work with her third Shetland Sheepdog, Arex.
Amy lives in West Peabody with her husband and two daughters.
